im new to the forum and from west wales. i got the engine with a bike off my mate but it wont start and it wont suck any petrol into the carb. the electrics are also a bit odd because i cant seem to understand there is a cable wich i think must go to the on/off switch but once conected still cant get a spark from the spark plug even wen it is out and touching the metal...........if any one could help i would be greatfull.......diolch

ok the cable running to the coil is the cut out switch if this is earthed it will cut the engine hence no spark
just as a test disconect it from the coil. but if it fires up and goes full throttle u cant shut it off, so u have to hold your hand with a rag maybe over the end of the exhaust this will sufacate it untill it cuts out ok. but i recomend getting a working 1 asap.
as for no fuel in the carb how do u know?
if you have had the bottom of the carb off the float chamber
stick fuel in the tank, and with the carb in its proper place, and the bowl removed lift the float up with your finger, turn fuel on, and on release of the float the fuel should start to flow.
if the fuel does not flow u need to sort that out blocked pipe, blocked inline fuel fillter, there is a little valve that is atatched to the floats, make sure its all conected tidy, if it wont stop fuel comming out when raised, clean it make sure its in good condition if not replace it.
if it stops and flows then your ok. and the carb is getting fuel.
thats about the same for all the carbs i think.
would help if we knew what bike, engine, carb it is?
