Firstly - At last, I did'nt think there was any mini moto action in this part of the world. Brilliant. I have set this account up for my 10 yr old son Daniel ( Bez ) who currently has a Midi moto X1 (yes I know not the best-I intend to buy a good Mini for Xmas). Anyway, the thing is a pig to start when cold.impossible off the pull start, and touch and go if it will start before the battery runs out. When it does go, it goes really well! So far I have only changed the spark plug. I figured it's best to ask the'pros' before I start to strip the thing! Any help would be appreciated. PS - Looking forward to bringing 'Bez' along to LLandow to check out the action - Cheers or now.

Hello there. Well 2 strokes are not that hard to fathem out, fuel, air and spark. usualy aslong as they get all three they work, try taking the spark plug out of the engine then put the HT lead back on it then place it on the metalwork of the bike, give it a few pulls to see if you have a good spark, good as in nice and blue. when out also look at what color the end of the plug is as this is a good indication of the running of the bike, should be a nice even tan color, then give it a clean.
When the plug is out stick your finger over the plughole and give it a few pulls, it should pop your finger off on the compresion stroke, if so all is well and you not got a ring gone or something. (you will find if you have a pinched ring the lack of compresion will give you no bottom end power and tendancy to bog out when on low revs, 1 posable cause to your starting trouble).
put the plug back in, then make sure its getting fuel, and the fuel has been mixed with 2stroke oil to the correct ratio for the bike. if its cold put the choke on, give it a good few pulls and listen for any signs of the engine trying to fire up, if it fires up all good and well. if not put the choke off and give it a few more pulls, if still not remove the plug again and look at the end to see if its getting fuel. if its wet its getting fuel but not getting spark, (this could be the plug missfiring under load) replace the plug and try again. if its dry with no added resadue on it could be that its getting no fuel. strip the carb off and check all jets for blockages and give it a good clean of any fillters fitted. if there is alot of crap in the carb bowl, fit an inline filter to the fuel line, to stop it blocking up the main jet in future.
if its dry but has some kind of black or tan resadue on it its getting fuel and is fireing. but you should have heared this trying to fire., other than that its down to carb settings.... hope this helps...
All The Best...

Clean the carb is what I recommend. As some chinese bikes have plastic debrie in them which get's into the carb and clogs it up.
Sonic.
