Oh come on paul, visit the site once a week

scotty4321- 01-10-2008
Hi Paul,
We haven't met as I am relatively new to minimoto and have only been to Llandow once which was the session just before the last round of the British. I remember this being well attended probably due to the fact that riders competing wanted the practice. This one visit was sufficient (not knowing anything about the place) to realise that there were some issues with minimotos there. All these have been covered by previous threads so no need to go there now.
I had other commmitments on the 6th and so did not prebook although would have done so had it been on the earlier date in the holidays. Instead I attended Whilton mill (with others from this club) for the second time on the 30th Dec and it may not be what you want to hear but for a "fun day" it was truely professional in all aspects. You genuinely feel that the organisers are in it because they are real keen on minimoto/geared bikes and want to see everyone have a good day, with seeing the track used during quiet winter months and maybe making a profit all seeming secondary (although It is known they were pleasantly surprised by the turn out). They took the chance and it paid off for them BIG time!
If seems obvious that if people from Wales are willing to make a 280mile round trip to a good track in England then the same logic must apply to some of the English making the trip to Llandow. A lot of them know the track from the British but as James/Darren have pointed out maybe they do not hear about your days as it appears those advertising it have been burnt in the past and aren't willing to go out on a limb anymore on the other site. As suggested a quick post on your part could potentially turn a passable day for all into a sorted one.
Llandow is a great track, for many the most local, but the minimoto days are few and far between, I am keen for more track time but have to go elsewhere to get any.
I have to say that I had more time on the track at Llandow than Wilton even though we shared time with Karts in the afternoon. Suggest to limit your "risk" on the next day if arranged, by booking karts in for the afternoon again so that you are not fully minimoto dependant initially and once confidence grows with numbers over several days then they could be dropped so that it is just bikes. An alternative to karts is to target the pit bikes, the numbers were an eye opener for me with many minimoto owners generating more tracktime for themselves by riding both. At Whilton track time is equally split between Jnr/Snr geared and the same for minimotos (10 mins on track in 40).
Make the day competitive in some way and you will attract more even though it takes more organising.
To break a stale mate why not try a day as above/similar with optional pre booking (BUT NOT NUMBER DEPENDANT OR CANCELABLE) , publicise it well, give it a real shot and see what happens. Back yourself and the track by making it a well run, reasonable fun day out and it should make you money.
If a meeting will help, why not call one at a motorway services on the M4, easily accessable, free parking, free venue, coffee/food available etc. I would attend.
Sorry for the long post but for me I would like to have the option to ride at a local track so the effort is justified. Cheers Scotty

some serious typing there scotty, hope someone reads it mmcwales/smilie_c_32.gif

mrboo- 01-11-2008
I read it!! Its all stuff thats been said before though! i think we`ve tried every possible way so far!

Maybe think bout wiping the slate claan Paul! Scrap that pre booking thing! I`d be happy to go back to split sessions with your hire karts but i know wht would happen! We`d end up with 15mins in every hr like it used to be! i When i mean split sessions Pau, l mean BIKES(15 mins) OFF THEN KARTS(15 mins) ON THEN BIKES(15mins) ON THEN KARTS(15mins) THEN BIKES., NOT.....KARTS 20 MINS BIKES 10 MINS KARTS 20 MINS ARRIVE AND DRIVE KARTS 20 MINS BIKES 10 MINS. That really makes it worthless to us! This has happened far too many time! Its down to the circuit to advertise your days! not us! I cant see many people queing up to have a meeting either, i think ppl been biten once too many times now|! well i have! i got so cheesed off last yr and i wasnt even riding, i really felt for the ppl who had paid good money (overpriced i might add) Id still like to see minimotos ride your track but you gotta sort it out. I wont be riding there till it improves and certainly not going to anymore meetings, sorry Paul, i appriciate what you have tried to do but we have NEVER had problems at any other tracks and still dont understand why its so hard to get this right and make some good days of it! mmcwales/p_argg.gif

I see why so many of the welsh boys gave up trying! mmcwales/p_no.gif

You guys know the history, I don't. Just trying to help, more that chip in the better.
Prebooking only option.
If a day to go ahead costs £450 (15 prepaid @£30) and (it is clear from the Academy threads) that people won't pay more especially up front and there aren't enough willing to prebook. Then the only way it is going to happen is to target a wider audience. Sounds obvious, been said before, will it happen? If not then minimotos can't use the track

No prebooking.
Circuit takes a risk minimised by arrive and drive karts. If it is a poor minimoto turn out and they don't make enough then the karts are going to get priority and the lions share of time in order to bring in the shortfall. There's only one way to avoid that and that is a good turn out. If 15 turn up, you have a 50/50 share agreed before the day if not it is difficult to complain and probably those that show won't bother again.
We aren't missing anything simple here are we. Cheers Scotty

We are trying to look at the bigger picture for Mini-Moto's at SWKC, but the problem being is, We have bills to pay constantly, and we have taken chances on the Mini-Moto's before and not had prepaid riders and 3 or 4 times last year we had (end of 2006 as well) we had less than 10 riders, end of 2007 when we had a pre-booking day we had 25 riders, of which 14 had pre-paid and Speedy, we did not scrap the last pre-booked day, it was extended by 1 day to help make the numbers up.

hi there paul, yes i understand where you coming from with the pre booking scheme. First problem im thinking of, you arnt making yourself/SWKC known, or advertising trackdays! There are few welsh riders, who are well known members/ riders on this site. I strongly suggest you visit minimoto club ( all of UK riders visit ). And make a welcoming/introduction topic, like when you first met us.

You seem to dump a post on here time and date and demands for a trackday, and expect us few riders who regualy check the site to advertise it for you. Doesnt sound like a good business plan to me??

Minimoto club

So please visit this site, make your introduction and possible trackday, making yourslef known like you first did with mmcw. English/scottish riders well know of llandow's poor reputation, so its a good chance for you to try and make a fresh start/ BUILD on the reputation of SWKC.

QUOTE
That meant we had no income apart from Mini-Moto's, how do we pay the bills if only 8 or 10 turns up, as it takes approx 20 to 22 full paying riders for us to cover our costs for the day, and make no profit at all.

As for pre booking. Im asking one last chance for you. After you have made you introduction/ welcoming to llandow circuit, future trackdays. Make a trackday Mid febuary? (Plenty of notice) Could post in price times/lunch/ ending of the day ect. I think thi could be a winner?

Whilton mill a fine example last sunday 100+ riders turned up for the practice day. I think this option is worth a shot, as minimoto club doesnt have a clue who you are and how llandow is run these days. As for few years ago its was run very poor for minimoto's/ geared.

Let me know, and i can back you up on the big site. One more shot now, we got no more options.

Meecham,

There you go again, never mind.

Guy's, sorry i haven't been on the site i have been away with work for 5 day's so haven't been on a computer.

The points you have raised so far are very well thought out and great, very positive mmcwales/p_clap.gif (except Meecham of course mmcwales/p_no.gif ).

Speedy, can you give me the web addresses of the other Mini-Moto's sites please, and YES i will contact them and advertise the SWKC/Llandow Mini-Moto track days.

I will speak to Nigel on Thursday morning, (circuit closed Tuesday, Wednesday's during winter months) and get another date for a track day in Feb/Mar time.

The reason i wanted another meeting was to find out about these issue's and to help put them to rest, but it is impossible to do over the net.

I am prepaired to work the Mini-Moto track days myself to make sure they go allright on the day, so that is a bit of committment from me as well.

Will post again on Thursday
